BEG, STEAL or BORROW
Saturday, May 31
(As noted in a Times Argus piece of Oct '24) Formed over a decade ago to celebrate the music of iconic bluegrass group Old & In the Way, Northern Vermont-based Beg, Steal or Borrow has become one of the best-loved bluegrass bands in the Green Mountain State and beyond, thanks to killer live shows, solid original material and serious instrumental chops.
In June of ‘24, the quintet released its sophomore album, “One Eye for the Sun,” an inspired 11-song set of originals with a couple of updated traditionals that finds the band firing on all cylinders. The release is a much-anticipated follow-up to its lauded 2019 debut, “Old Mountain Time,” an album of all-original material recorded live in one room by standout central Vermont singer-songwriter and producer Colin McCaffrey.
The band is made up of guitarist Jeremy Sicely, mandolinist Geoff Goodhue, violin virtuoso Roland Clark, bassist Fran Forim and banjo player Luke Auriemmo.
“Beg, Steal or Borrow has managed to absorb their essential influences — Appalachian, folk and country sounds in particular,” said Bluegrass Today of the album, “and refashion them in a way that’s so accessible and infectious that the music’s all but irresistible.” Beg, Steal or Borrow has won regional bluegrass competitions in New York, Maine and Connecticut — prompting Bluegrass Today to proclaim them a “triple crown bluegrass band.
Since then, there's been no stopping them. The band went on to open for bluegrass superstar Billy Strings at the iconic Capitol Theatre in Portchester, New York, and played with such musical heroes as Jim Rooney and Peter Rowan. This will be their 5th appearance at The Meeting House. They’re beginning to feel like family.
